There are a growing number of vegan athletes out there performing at a high level. Although Jurek has been pretty low key about his diet choices over the years, he’s still recognized as a trailblazer with his combination of record making runs + vegan diet for over 15 years. There’s a common misconception we need to eat dairy products to maintain healthy calcium levels, despite osteoporosis being less prevalent in countries with limited dairy and meat consumption. Humans can’t subsist on a Rhinoceros’ diet of grasses, but we can easily get enough calcium from plant based sources.
